Abstract

In recent years, there has been a global shift in attitudes toward homosexuality, particularly among younger generations, who often serve as drivers of cultural change. This study aims to examine the effects of homosexual representation on Netflix on the attitudes of Pakistani youth toward homosexuality, framed within the context of Parasocial Interaction Theory. A quantitative research design is employed, surveying 200 Netflix users aged 18 to 26 through purposive sampling. The sample consists of an equal number of male and female participants, selected from the media and mass communication departments of four universities listed in the QS World University Rankings, with 50 respondents from each institution. The collected survey data is analyzed using SPSS, applying correlation and regression tests to determine relationships between variables. The findings indicate a statistically significant relationship between exposure to homosexual representation on Netflix and changing perceptions among Pakistani youth, emphasizing the influential role of streaming platforms in shaping social attitudes.
